, It is stated; in connection with the charge against' Stanley Emerson Carlyle Taylor, wild was remanded for a week on a charge of attempting to murder James Farrelly, that the latter had been in the district for some time, and that certain people were afraid of him. Jle went to Taylor’s on Friday last, when there was some trouble, and went Jiack on Sunday, when shooting occurred, after a'threat by Far felly to tie Taylor up. It is alleged that Farrelly was wandering in the hush for several dnvs previously. Taylor is a highly respectable young man with a farm near Tangarakau. Fnrrelly’s condition is still critical, showing no change since his admission io the hospital, and it is expected that he will lose the sight of one eye.
