WORKER’S COMPENSATION

NEW SOUTH WALES LEGISLATION REDUCED INSURANCE RATES RECOMMENDED (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian & N.Z- Cable Association ) SYDNEY, iSepL 7. The Parliamentary Labour CaiuXis Sub-Committee, which lias been inquiring into the, working of the workers’ compensation insurance rates reported in favour of a reduction of rates forthwith by one-third; also a review at the end of December with a view to further reductions. In the case of certain rural and mining industries a still greater reduction is favoured and a number of anomalies will also be removed. The committee recommends the establishment of the State’s monopoly of the compensation business. It regards such action as necessary if the rates are to be brought to bedrock level. Probably legislation creating a monopoly will .be introduced next session. It is also probable* that the sickness risk as such will be abolished and this risk is embodied in an all embracing flat rate.
