Mr ELY. Penny.'of The engineering staff of H.M.S. Dunedin, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs E.. 11. Penny, of Blenheim, and will be in that town about a week. • .

Visitors Avho arrived at Wainui Houso to-day include: Mr M. Smith (Dunedin); Air W. Hyde (Wellington); Rev. W. F. Sernie (Wellington); Mrs and Mrs J. T. Robinson (Lower Hutt). • ■ '■> ' Mr E. Caradus, Inspector of Secondary Schools, is at present on a visit to Nelson.

Members of the Kingston family recently foi’egathered in Nelson. Mr Frederick -John Hingston arrived in Nelson from Brisbane in 1865, and Avill bo Avell remembered by earlier residents. There arc seven sons and five daughters, all of Avhom are alive and arc residents cf New Zealand.

Following Wellington visitors hooked at the Masonic Hotel to-day: Mr Band, Mr and Mrs Parsons, Mr TYblove, Mr Hall and Mr Palmer.

Mr James Marshall, champion euphonium player of .Scotland during the four years ended 1925, has joined the Greymouth Municipal Band.

Miss Frances Morrison, the avcllknown Blenheim contralto, Avho has been pursuing her musical .career Avith great success in Chicago, has left Vancouver by the Niagara and will, arrive in Auckland about the huddle of this month. Aliss Morrison intends to remain in New Zealand indefinitely, and after a series of concerts she will settle in Wellington to'continue her musical’work. Arrangements are in .train for a recital by Miss Morrison in Nelson during September.

The Hon. W. DoAvnie Stewart stated in the House of Representatives last night that it Ava's a difficult matter to make State, advances for fiuit farms. Applications for■ such loans, he said. Avere not turned down, but fruit farms were a form of security which had to be carefully considered, before loans could be granted. There was no desire to inflict hardship on fruit farmers, but the utmost discretion had to he used in considering loans of that particular class. However, lie would go into the matter.
