A DOMINION SURVEY
(By Telegraph— Special to The Mail.) WELLINGTON,'This Day. Mr ' D. C."Bates’s weather' summary for 1 / July, the mid-winter month in New Zealand, states' it was remarkable for '.three storms particularly affecting the' North Island', a ' cyclone, developing in the North on 10th, had its greatest intensity on the following (lay northward of Kawhia and Poverty Bay,' although, .owing to, its' influence, rains were experienced and snow fell on high levels farther south. This storm, ruled from,loth to 13th of July, and was followed .almost immediately by .a westerly depression which caused rains- along the West Coast and gales about-'.Taranaki, Waikato and other parts. Between the 23rd and 28th July another westerly depression, with two centres, caused' gales and heavy rains, particularly in the Manawatu, Wanganui and Taranaki districts and severe floods caused considerable damage in those parts. . . The whole of the South Island, with the . exception of Queenstown, experienced milch less rain than us.ual and many,parts of the. North Island also had rainfall considerably below their July, average. * b ‘ ■'). , V There were a number of frosts in the East Coast districts of both Islands, but the weather on the whole was dry and milder than usual.
