RADIO INSPECTORS
APPOINTMENT OF HONORARY STAFF STATEMENT BY G.P.O. SECRETARY .United Proas ABBoeiatioa.J WELLINGTON, This Day. An official statement has been mado by the secretary of the G.P.O. in connection with the controversy regarding the duties of four honorary inspectors, who were selected to assist the departmental radio inspectors in carrying out their duties. He states that these appointments were made at the request of the radio societies. The Christchurch societies offered to delegate certain members to undertake any duties required of them by the district radio inspector and this offer was accepted and all other societies advised of what had •been done. After a time the Wellington society notified the Department that they would co-operate in a similar way to the Christchurch Society and nominated four members who were willing to undertake the duties. The appointees were notified that they had been, appointed honorary deputy radio inspectors under the direction of the departmental radio inspector at Wellington and their duties would be to assist the Department : in seeing that the provisions of the statute and the regulations applying to radio receiving, amateur transmitting and receiving and experimental stations were observed. The secretary states that it will be observed that no reference was made to such matters as the right of entry or penalties for refusing to permit inspection by one of these honorary officers. It is qilite correct that the regulations require all radio stations to be open for' inspection at any time by any radio inspector, but. it is also quite clear that the Ministers' powers may only be delegated to the officers of the Post and Telegraph Department. t . . v-ij .
