The official papulation of the Commonwealth at 31st March last was 6,087,210, whereof New South Wales is 2,308,333 and Victoria 1,691,486, a total increase for the year of 112,618. Since the census in April, 1921, the population increased 581,476, whereof 408,218 was the natural increase, the total increase being a little over two per cent per annum. Tasmania alone showed a decrease. Her births exceeded deaths, but excess in departures over arrivals outnumbered the excess of births by 2197.
