TECHNICAL SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS
MATTER OF OUTSIDE WORK THE NEW REGULATIONS (United Press Association.) Auckland; Tins Day. Whether the new regulations on the subject, could be interpreted as directly prohibiting outside work by schools full time teachers was a'question that the Board of Managers of the Seddon Memorial Technical College discussed when dealing with the merits of one case that the-director referred to the board. "J have a draughtsman wh'o'acts as an instructor with my consent," said Mr A. Burt, "and:..my attitude is that I have no objection so long as his outside activities do not interfere, with his ordinary duties." "I think you will find there are mswy instructors in this 'college who are doing outside work," said Mr .T. P. MePhail. The director, Mr 0. J. Park, said it was quite allowable formerly, but the position was different .under the new regulations. , ■.•>.. Finally members interpreted the regulations as meaning that outside work was not permissible if it interfered with an hratnictor's ? eonduet of- his classes and the matter was referred to the director who, it was held; was a competent authority to decide whether the class was suffering owing to the outside aetivities-of- the instructor.
