AUCKLAND, This Day The late Air David Goldie, whose long life of service to the community of Auckland was brought to a close on Tuesday, i.as given tlie citizens of /Auckland still further cause to honour his memory by bequeathing to -them.a splendid area of native bush in the Waitakero- Ranges and making a number of handsome bequests to public institutions in the city. ' The section of the native • bush which Mr Goldie has bequeathed to the city of Auckland, to. be'held, as: a public reserve, has an area of 4 7 5 acres. It :s known as Goldie’s Bush,.and is situated about 23 miles from the city and about four miles from..the Waitakere railway station. The area is covered withbeautiful bush which contains totara and kauri'trees.. / , The'following are■ additional bequests made by Mr Goldie—Blind Institute £1000; Auckland Museum £1000; Karitane. Home £500; Salvation,Army £500; St Mary’s '■ Home-, Otahuhu £500; Y.W.O.A. £500; Flying Angel Mission £250; Y.M.C.A. £250; Knox Home for Incurables £250; Young Citizens’ League £125; ,-Bovs’-. ‘ Scout; organisation £125. In ‘addition there- is a bequest to the Alexandra Street Methodist School of £5 annually for- library books.
