BRITISH EMIGRANTS TO NEW ZEALAND

. STATEMENTS DENIED (United Press Association.) ' NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day Addressing the Chamber of Commerce JUr H. D. Thomson, Under-Secretary for Immigration, gave an emphatic contradiction to statements that a large number of Government immigrants had returned to England arid that they were swelling the local unemployed. Not five per cent had returned to England, and of the large number, introduced during the last few weeks every one has been sent to employment or friends. About 65 per cent went to the country and the balance 'to the towns, being artisans or trad,3fsmen. He expressed satisfaction also with the working of the Chamber's scheme of introducing public school bovs, which had pimed a marked success.- He saw no reason why the Dominion should reduce its immgirants below JO,OOO per annum, who would be readily absorbed; but he would not at present advocate increasing the quota.
