TASMAN LODGE 123, N.Z. Tim usual fortnightly meeting of the above bodge was held'in. the. Orang* Hall, Coilingwbod Street, on Tuesday, June Oth, at 7.30 p.m. The <N.G.,'Rro. 'Arth'ur Lodge, Motucka, consisting of nineteen members, jiaiij a fraternal visit to the Lodge, coming over by car from Motueka and arriving at. 8130. The party, which was headed by the veteran, Bro. MeKillop, 1.P.G.,' was given a cordial welcome by Bro. Gardiner, ,\vho invited the officers of Mt. Arthur Lodge to occupy tlie chairs for the main business of tlie.evening. Bro. iMcKilldp, on behalf of the Mb-tuieka brethren, accepted the invitation and the officers were duly installed in their respective chairs. The business consisted* of initiation of new members and nine candidates presented themselves for initiation. The following officers performed the ceremony: 1.P.G., Bro. D. McKillop, N.G.-Brb. W.. H. Goodall, V.G. Bro. D. Haining, Conductor, Bro. C. Wilkinson; Warden, Bro. ('. B. Morris; chaplain, Bro. Reverend C. Benny. The ceremony was carried out in a very impressive manner, and it reflected great credit on the officers concerned. Everyone performed his part excellently and thdir concerted work was an object lesson to the members of Tasman Lodge, and showed what can be done by members who are keen in the work of the Order. After the initiation the Motueka Officers vacated their positions, and on resuming the chair Bro. Gardiner heartily congratulated Mt. Arthur brethren on the splendid ' way they had carried out their work. He also thanked them for coming over in such numbers, and mentioned that any time an invitation was forthcoming from them Tasman Lodge would have great pleasure in repaying the visit. Bro. McKillop briefly returned thanks for the way they had been received and for the congratulations tendered them. In visiting Tasman Lodge they were only repaying some of toe kindness extended to them al the formation of Alt. Arthur Ledge when the Nelson brethren paid several trips to ..Motueka for the purpose of initial ion, etc. lie also offered his congratulations on the progress which the Lodge had iha'ile since his last visit, and mentioned that the fact that liino new members were put through that night, making eighteen members since February was a glowing testimonial to the progress of the Order in Nelson. After the close of the business the N.G. Hro. Gardiner called on J.P.O. Bro. Anderson to come forward, when he presented him with a P.G. collar and a. framed certificate, on behalf of Tasman Lodge, in recognition of the fact of his being the first P.O. Bro. Anderson briefly returned thanks for the gift,, and mentioned that his services would always be at the disposal of tile Lodge if in any way needed. He also spoke a few words to the new members, informing them of the main characteristics of the Order they had joined, which he mentioned was the largest Friendly Society in existence. On resuming his seat Bro. Anderson was loudly applauded.
Bro. Gatward presented the Lodge with a handsome honours Tuoard, thus filling a need which was just beginning to confront the Lodge. On the motion of the N.G. a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Bro. Gatward for liis thoughtful gift. This being all the business the Lodge was closed at 10 p.m., after which: fhe visiting brethren were entertained to a social. hour, when refreshments were handed round and several members enlivened the proceedings with songs, recitation's, etc. The visitors left for home at a late homy everyone voting it an evening well spent for the good of the Order,.
