NELSON FIRE BRIGADE

PRESENTATION TO DEPARTING MEMBER

On Thursday evening last- the members of the Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade assembled at. the Central station to bid farewell to Lieut. J. Nesbit, who is leaving to take up liis residence in Wellington. . Capt. Stewart presided, and said that the vacancy caused by the. departure of Lieut. Nesbit would be very hard to fill, as lie had always been a very keen and efficient fireman. Lieut. Nesbit had been a member of the Brigade for 18 years, and during that period had attended 574 musters out of a. total of 608. (Applause). Capt. Stewart then asked Lieut. Nesbit to accept a- gold watch suitably inscribed, as a tangible token of appreciation for services rendered and to mark the esteem in which he is held by the members of the Eire Brigade. Several officers and members also spoke in glowing terms of the manner in which Lieut. Nesfifi. had always carried out, his duties, both as ail officer and fireman. Lieut. Nesbit thanked the members for their gift and kind remarks, stating that although he was leaving Nelson lie would never forget the happy times he had spent with the Brigade. Cheers for Lieut. Nesbit and the singing of "For he's a. jolly good fellow,’’ brought, a. pleasant evening to a close.
