IN A DUG-OUT
STOLEN GOODS - •; MOTHER ANI) SONS ARRESTED SYDNEY, June 4. Investigations by the Victorian de--tectives into a number of robberies occurring lately revealed the discovery on Monday last of an amazing underground dug-out stocked with large quantities of goods which had disappeared from many quarters. Six boys between the ages of fourteen and sixteen were arrested also the mother of one of the boys, who has been charged with, being in possession of stolen goods. The uoys are to appear at- the Children’s Court.
As a result, of the arrests, it is believed that at least fifteen recent robberies in Melbourne suburbs will be* cleared up. The underground dug-out was discovered in the back yard of a house in St. Kilda. U was about four feet deep and several yards in extent. The entrance of the dug-out was effectively concealed by a dog kennel, which moved on hinges, an. the cavern itself was topped by a. lawn. Its presence was most deceptive, and inside it was lit'with,electric light. The wall were properly “shored.” The police state that the robberies were cleveily planned and carried out. At times the crime imports had reached five a day, and the extensive operations led the police to believe that an organised gang was operating.
