LONDON. June 9. Playing at Lord's against Yorkshire, Middlesex, in the first innings, made 118, E. Robinson taking live wickets for 52 runs, and in the second innings 271 (G. T. S. Stevens 65, J, W, Hearne 91). Yorkshire declared in the first innings, when they had lost six wickeds for 538 (P. Holmes, not out 315, H. Sutcliffe 58, M. Leyland 61). Yorkshire won by an innings, four wickets and 149 runs. Holmes broke the record created at Lord's in 1820 by William Ward, who on that occasion scored 278. Holmes s score is also the highest by an Englishman since 1905, and is the highest in his life. He batted for 405 minutes and Hit 38 4’s. He played a chanceless innings. At Manchester, playing against Surrey, Lancashire, in the first innings, made 371 (11. Makepeace 72, E, Jyldeslev 82. F. Watson 120). P. G. H. Fender taking six wickets for 86 runs. Surrey’s first innings only realised 71 runs, E. A. MacDonald taking four wickets for 30 runs, Tyklesley three for 7, and C, Parkin three for 17. In the second the side made 283 (H. Sandahm 117), MacDonald taking six' for 112. Lancashire won by an innings and 17 runs.
Playing for Gloucestershire . against Derbyshire.at- Chesterfield. W._R. Hammond' took five wickets for 57 runs in the first innings, and C. Parker eight, for 56 in the second. Gloucestershire won.
C. N. Woolley, playing for Northamp- : tonsTiire against Warwickshire, atNorthampton, made 164, and Enright 112. The latter also took five wickets for 66 runs. For Warwickshire, 11. , Howell took five wickets for 120 runs. Northamptonshire won. ' Playing for Worcestershire against Sussex, at. Stourbridge. H. 0. Rogers | made 118, not out, and F. Root took five wickets for 64 runs in the first innings, and five for 78 in the second. For Sussex, A. F. Wensley took five for 56 in the first innings, and M. W. | Tata six for 56 in the second. Sussex won. I
At- Leicester, in the match between Leicestershire and Notts, A. W. Carr, playing for the. latter country, made 206, and F. C. Matthews for the same side took six wickets for 81. runs. Notts won.
