AMALGAMATION SCHEME

NEW PLYMOUTH, April 29.
The Minister of Education foil* James Parr) was in New Plymouth to-day, his principal engagement being the opening of a new school at- Westown. The school, which has recently been completed, is built- on moderli .lines, and is up to date in every respect. The Minister also- held a conference with tins High School and Technical College; Boards to discuss a scheme for amalgamation of the two schools. The (Minister strongly supported the scheme and promised to-’support it when it came before Cabinet. He said that he would like to see amalgamation taken up in other towns, as it would avoid ovr-ibp-ping and would enable pupils who we e not suited to studies at -high schools to take a course at a technical school. The scheme involves new buildings of the Boys’ High School costing £IIO,OOO. Pending Cabinet’s approval the sen noe is held up. It will mean that all pupils at the Technical College will go to the High School which will cover the c’ass of work now done at the Technical .College.
