MAGISTRATE’S COURT
ALLEGED TIIEFT OF MOTOR CAR ACCUSED CO ADMITTED FOR TRIAL Albert Beard, •who was charged at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, on warrant, with the theft of a motor car, the property of llarley and Co., of Urey mouth,' and remanded, appeared before Mr T. E. Maunsell. S.M.. tins morning. llis Worship said that as the charge had now been laid by the police, too evidence would have to taken again. (The case in the first instance was taken on the sworn information of Mr Fred, llarley, of Harley and Co., Greymouth, from whom accused purchased an Overland car on the hire-purchase system and exchanged same for another ear and £3O. before Harley and Co.’s claim was satisfied). The evidence was on similar lines as yesterday's.
Accused, who pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence, was committed for t rial at the next sittings of the Supremo Court at Nelson. Bail was allowed in one surety of £IOO and self of £IOO.
Counsel for accused (Air J. R. Kerr) asked the Bench if two sureties of itso would he accepted and this was assented to.
