WOOLLEN MILLS FOR NELSON
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —“Nelsonian” seems to be “in his inward parts” hurt—evidently niv words sting! And their sting lay in their absolute and literal truth anil he knows it. To my former communications, 1 might add much, very much, indeed many columns, full, and my letters wouid be read too, but why should V. 1 have certainly not one syllable to withdraw, and there is no call for personalities in this discussion, and to ■follow this bent on “Nelsonians” part would be more manly, and perhaps more effective if he si—ned his own name, and refrained from using nom-de-pluines. We want to know exactly where we stand The employer to-day is at the mercy ot bis employee. Th.it paradoxical state ot affairs was never contemplated by either John Balia nee or Richard John fSeddon, and others responsible, for the introduction into this country of needful humanitarian labour legislation. They never forsaw the awful and the crushing and the humiliating tyranny into which tlies,' laws have degenerated today. We are trying and trying vainly to work under a bastard form of socialism. where the employer’s job is to find the money to foot the bills and to pay the fines.' The position is quite impossible. It cannot long continue, and that something worse follows on swiftly. 1 do not doubt for a single moment. Behind it all lurks a dark and devilish power, neither to be defined nor defied, but whose mission is destruction, arid disruption and annihilation in alt that we have regarded as stable in good government, and as true and sure in real religion. And meanwhile we sleep peacefully on, in the garden, regarding not the sudden darkness and the earthquake of to-morrow. — lam etc., R. SINCLAIR.
