REMARKS BY HIGH COMMISSIONER
STRONG OBJECTION BY LABOUR MEMBERS
(From our Parliamentary Correspondent)
WELLINGTON, This Day. Strong strictures were passed by members of the Labour Party in the House as to the remarks made by the High Commissioner in commenting on what members had said in the House regarding the housing conditions in the Dominion.
When the report of the Immigration Department was being discussed, Mr Bavtram state! that- the High Commissioner had misrepresented certain remarks" lie had made in the House regarding -housing conditions. He claimed that Sir James Alien should tell the people at Home the truth and not lead,,them to believe that members of .Parliament were making incorrect statements.
(“I think this House ought to tell Sir James Allen, sooner or later,” remarked Mr Holland, “that he has. got t-o keep to the truth and that when he does make reference to members of this House, lie had to make respectful reference. He has abused his position in the Immigration Office and the High Commissioner’s office, and I do not know whether the Government has taken him to task. Ido remember that the Prime Minister promised to see Sir James Allen about a statement he made with reference to mvself.”
