The story of the bear cub which is the latest addition to the Auckland Zoo, was related by Mr Charles Rhodes at the Rotary Club luncheon, says the Auckland Star. It was a gift by Mr Cuy Gundaker ,of Philadelphia, who is rotary international president, to the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, for the Auckland Zoo, and had been checked on through rotary circles to Auckland. Mr Rhodes stated that he got rather a shock on opening a letter the other day and finding that a bear cub had been consigned to him by the Makura, but on making the matter known to his rotary friends at the waterfront, he was surprised at the case and dispatch with which the animal was transferred to its new home. Auckland had to thank the captain of Ihe Makura for his good nature in accepting the responsibility of an ursine passenger, though as a. matter of fact Teddy had proved to he the pet of the ship,'and a special favourite of the children aboard. On one occasion during the voyage the cub and a child playmate had Keen found asleep together on the deck, the bear in the child’s arms. THE “ALL CLACKS” The New Zealand team now visiting Australia have taken supplies of Q-tol (for embrocation) and Fluenzol to keep the breathing apparatus freo by warding off catarrh and colds. Mr A. J. Griffiths, Mr “Dolf“ Kitto, Mr Geoff Pownall, Mr Jim EcEwin and other prominent R.F.U. Officials, know the sterling value of Fluenzol.
