The first annual meeting <1 the Royal Agricultural Society ot New Zealand was held at the conference room. Dominion Farmers’ Pudding, Wellington, yesterday. The Prime Minister sent a message wishing lilt* society all success. The president outlined the initial slops which had been taken in connection with the inauguration ol the j st ciety, and said that the support promised and general outlook were most satisfactory. The Council «nf Agriculture on the previous day agreed to hand over their functions and assets to the Royal Society. Ihe various breed societies had donated to the Royal Society caps to the value ot ; £;126 and cash to the extent of £4OB. He formally moved the adoption of the first balance-sheet. In seconding the motion. Mr .1. A. Nash, AFP., urged the necessity of increasing the membership of the society. I'M hoy laid MinO financial mein-, bers, the society would be able to dn great work in increasing the value of the various district shows, both in the North and in the South Island. He paid a tribute to the line work done by Colonel Pow, the general secretary. The. speaker then mentioned the responsibilities which the Alanawatu ■agricultural and Pastoral Association had undertaken in commotion with Hie next' show. The Royal Society, said Mr Nash, was now firmly established. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. Perry; vice-presidents, Messrs J. A. Nash, ALP. (Alanawatu), and R. Al. .Morton (Christchurch); auditor. Air 8. Rambert.
Some discussion took place on a motion moved by Air AL A. Conway (Alarm,watu). “That the position of direc-tor-general of file Royal Agricultural Socictv of New Zealand he created, and that lie. may be appointed by the council annually.” It was stated that such an oflico had existed for years in connection with the Home society,, and that society had been so successful that it might well be taken ns a model. The motion was adopted. The schedule of “royal” classes, and the prizes to be given at the shows conducted under the auspices of the society, were then considered in detail by the meeting.
