KU KLUX KLAN

TERRORISTIC METHODS

(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrignt.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

NEW YORK, July 12

A message from Battle Creek, Michigan, states that a new mystery, involving tlie terroristic methods of the Ku Klux Klan, is causing general discussion and indignation. The Rev. Oran Van Loon, pastor of a neighbouring community, who disappeared on 30th June, was found in a dazed state, and is now in hospital, semi-delirious. He is unable to tell what happened to him, hutins right shoulder bears a brand with the letters “Iv.K.K.” two inches high. Mr Van Loon suffers constant hallucinations, and apparently fears that he is Icing kept for further nameless tortures. Whenever the doors opens to admit a friend, he shrieks, “Don’t let them got me,” while the entry of strangers utterly terrorises him. The police are vainly scouring the countryside and the Klan strongholds, but bis friends believe that, the Klan punished Mr Van Loon for so-called apostasy in recently attacking secret societies from the pulpit, whereas lie had previously permitted Klan gatherings in his church.
