NE\V YORK. June 16. A telegram from St. Paul, Minnesota-, gavs the farmer-labour party convention opens to-morrow. It is apparently determined to designate or endorse a Candida to for the United States presidency who has already definitely repudiated the party itself, namely, Senator Lafollette, who declared that the organisation was ' deeply tainted wdlv Bolshevism. Senator Lafollete has lus own plans, probably launching a third parly during the so-called Progressive national convention scheduled for Cleveland for July 4th. . , It is understood that in the event ot Senator Lafollette not being designated farmer-labourites will name Mr Parley Christensen, who was the party s candidate in 1920. t , T . The American Federation of Laboui lias long repudiated the farmerJabourites, whose membership includes every variety of. radical, especially I.W-W. But importance lies in the fact that these various so-called third parties inevitablv mean the weakening of the Republican and even the Democratic Strength, increasing the possibility that no party will secure, a majority of the electoral college, and putting tlie choice of President upon Congress.
THE DEMOCRATS NEW YORK, June 16. Democratic leaders arrived to-day for a week’s political manoeuvring preceding tlie national convention. Looming in the forefront as a possible dark horse or a compromise candidate for the presidency are John Davis, former ambassador to Britain, and Senator Ralston, of Indiana. Sentiment favours tho choice of Air Davis.
