“CONVIVIAL” GATHERING

A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION

A West Coast delegate at the Oddfellows’ Conference this morning, during the discussion on the report- of_ the Grandmaster and board of directors, rose and asked the chairman whether the adjective ‘‘convivial” was the right one to use in connection with conferences in liie early days. This brought- a retort firm mi Ashburton delegate that the first speaker came from a place where convivial gatherings had a very different meaning. Of course they had convivial’' gatherings on the West Coast, from which those participating went home very early in the morning. He could assure his West- Coast brother that tile term “convivial” in Die report so far as the brethren’s capacity to go home was concerned, was never in doubt. i Laughter).
