FATALITY AT RIWAKA
ME HUBERT ATKINS KILLED

j A sad fatality occurred at Riwaka yesterday afternoon near the residence of Mr Geo. Atkins. His brother, Mr 'Hubert Atkins, had gone over from Motueka to cart hay for his brother. The horse in the cart was a young one, and bolted before Mr Atkins could 'gather up the reins. Mr Atkins was thrpw'n 'out and fell on to a'wheel of-the - cart, | which passed over his body, causing fa- ! tal injuries.' - " - ■ Mr George. Atkins’s son, . Maurice, was also in the cart at the time, arid was thrown out when the vehicle"‘capsized- ’further down ■ the ’ road. ■ The | frame Work of the carl badly lacerated jono of his arms above the elbow, and 20 l stitches were subsequently inserted. - j Drs. Green and Deck .'were sent for) land on examination it was found that ■Mr Hubert Atkins had several Of his ribs broken, one penetrating the lung, and deceased died at about 3.30. The late Mr Atkins resided -in Parker-strqet, Motueka, and a widow and four children arc loft to mourn their loss. The greatest sympathy will be extended to the Atkins..family in their bereavement.
