"CORNER TURNED"
.SPEECH BY HON. W. NOSWORTHY
(United Preaa Aaaocihtion) &
OHRISTOHUROH, Nov. 10. Hon. W. Nosworthy, speaking .'it the A. and P. "srnoko," said that for many yeaxfl the Government' had boon urged to establish a Royal Show and nothing ■would give him greater pleasure, lie hoped it would not be long before the ghow was established. Regarding the agricultural and pastoral outlook _he could not remember a worse period than the last eighteen months, but he believed the corner had been turned. sne decrease in the Dominion's flocks was partlv attributable to the increase , in dairying, but was also due to the unsatisfactory tenure in respect to hign country,' and also indiscriminate burii-j ing and neglect iu exterminating rab-i bits Agricultural and pastoral nsso-l dations could do much by eradicating xubbish and encouraging the use of Uie ■verv best bulls, rams and stallions to snaice the flocks and herds of the country what they ought to be. Ihe future export of stud stock from New Zealand was going to be something tremendous in cempaxison with what it was to-day. Thi*v would have other countries flocking "to the Dominion to buy stud stock and paving big prices for it, and the A and P. Associations should snare no mains to invite a keen living interest in the improvement of the Dominion s flocks and herds. Already the Dominion's butter, cheese and lamb was sec<>nd to none on the London or any oiher market, and its wools, taking tne . clip all over, were hard to beat in any part of the world; but there was room lor improvement and it could be done !by heavy culling and judicious managegnenl: of flock*.
