PLUNKET SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held on 11th October in the Waimea County Council ,Eoom. Fourteen members 6f the committee were present and several apologies for absence were received, including orfe from the president (Mrs Buchanan). In her absence Mrs Hunter-Brown proposed 'that Miss Ledger take the chair. Before the business of the meeting commenced, the chairwoman spokp of the sad loss the Society had sustained by the death of Miss Hurst; Miss Hurst has been a prominent ..and keen member I of the committee for a number of years, and her loss will be felt by all who knew her. Expression of the committee's sympathy had been sent to her relatives. The Society has also suffered a loss, which is shared with the whplo community, by the death of Mr Evans. It was resolved that a letter he sent to Mrs Evans and family expressing the sympathy of the committee. ■ Members of the committee stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memories of the deceased persons. The accounts for the month of September amounted to £62 12s 4d. It was proposed by'Mrs Gray and seconded by Mrs C. Harley, that they be passed for payment. ■■'■ ' . ' «
The Nurses' reports gave the following figures; Number of new cases, 14 headquarters, 6 country; number of visits to hpni.es, 191 headquarters, 11 country; number of visits to Plunket rooms, adults 156, babies 106, headquarters, adults 62, babies 43; country letters received 5, answered 4; number of cases under treatment 308. Visits had been paid to Motueka, Riwaka, Orinoco,■ and. Takaka. The Nurses report that there are some colds amongst babies, ,but no serious trouble. The Mothers' Help Committee report another very satisfactory month. It is regretted that Mrs Gray has resigned from the executive committee.— It. was proposed that Miss Ledger should fill the vacancy caused by the resignation • It was proposed that Mrs Thornton be elected to the committee. Further arrangements were made for the various stalls : n connction with ib.t forthcoming fair, on the 18th November, in the Botanical Reserve. Various depots will be advertised later where contributions may be left. For the, competitions prizes will be given for decorated prams and go-carts, tricycles, dolls' prams and children in fancy dress with scooters.
