Mr Lloyd George and Dr Macnamara today had” a series of conferences aiming at gliding the engineering and shipbuilding disputes. To-night the general workers and foundry workers, the largest, section affected outside the amalgamated engineers, informed the engineers that they were willing to accept the employers latest conditions for withdrawal of the lockout notices as a fair basis for direct negotiations. The breakaway of forty-seven unions from tho amalgamated engineers is a sequel to tho conferences with Mr Lloyd Georg«. The position is that representatives of these unions, immediately resume the conference with tho employers, who are considering cancellation of the lockout notices, leaving the amalgamated engineers to fight alone. The engineers protested vigorously' against- the action of other unions.
