LOLLIES AND TEETH
(To the EditorJ
Sir, —Seeing you are deeply interested in the? welfare of our .children re [dental instruction* given, by Mr T. A. i Hunter in School of Music, I would like to give a piece of information, which Ithink is very much overlooked, and that,is how many of our pre-sent-day lollies are made, which, jf fnllv known, would never he bought; leaving out tihe gay colours ol every hue and of dve such as used in dycniu cloths and textures, in fact all soft goods. Surely this must have had a very bad effect on the whole system of our voung, causing gases which ruin the enamel of the teeth, causing earlv decav. Some 30 or 40 years ago we had a wholesome sweetmeat in the colony, but what do wo see in colour in' many lolly shops to-day served out as high-class confectionery. Alas! those teeth! Thev fclli mo the peoplelike black peppermint ball the best. If they know what makes them black thev would like them the worst. I am, etc., STICKJAW.
P.S.—Tf von make inquiries and get the truth you will find I am right in what I say .
