BAND MUSIC
(To the Editor.)
Sir, We' in Nelson have long complained of not having enough music in our town, but I think that that complaint is now remedied, for Sunday evening last the National Reserve Silver Band gave a splendid open air concert in the Botanical-(gardens, and in spite of the inclement weather realised quite a large sum towards their new instrument fund, ' Considering that the Band is composed of a number of voung‘members great credit is due to ‘the conductor for the class of music rendered, and judging by their style of playing and taking into consideration the splendid set of instruments they should certainly get a place (and I venture to say, a good place) in the forthcoming contest to. be held in Nelson in March next. Before I close 1 would suggest that , the Band consider playing in a more central part, of the town. The Botanical Gardens, although it has the advantage of having a rotunda, is too far for a number of people who would like to go. The people who live in the Waimea street part' of the town would very much appreciate a visit from the Band. I.never remember a concert being given in Victory Square, and f vote the National Reserve Silver Ba*id give it a trial. I am, etc., MUgia : fSeveral additional letters are uri--1 avoidably held over.)
