SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT

WELLINGTON, Oct. 15 Whether the Government would take stops to bring aboxxt a settlement of the. Pxxkemiro mine dispute, tvas Asked by Mr Potter (Roskill) in the House. The Prime Minister respited that the only answer he could give was that ho hoped the two parties would come together and settle the dispute. It did not seem to him to be impossible of a settlement, and a Rifle sweet reasonableness woxxld get over the difficulty. There was very little between the parties now, and it was possible that a settlement would he announced very shortly.

Aa a result of a conference with the Pxikemiro Miners’ Union, Mr. Halley has received authority to arrange a settlement with the executive of the Mine Owners’ Association, provided the Union’s sanction permitting him to' act is confirmed by Mr Arbuckie. Mr, Hally will arrive in, Wellington this afternoon to confer with the executive of the Association.
