AUCKLAND V. MANAWATU The following comments are taken from the Auckland Star sporting edition on the recent Aucklandi-Mana-watu match: Though outclassed at nearly every point the visiting team possessed the most conspicuously brilliant player on the held in O. K. Perrin (full-back), who saved bis side from further heavy adverse scoring bv bis sound defence and clever stick worlc. The match calls for little comment, and was a repetition of the two previous contests. Once a . comiovtnble load was obtained, the locals were content to ease up. It was mainly through Perrins clever woik at full-hack that the Auckland goal romained under double figures. The tally of goals hardly sums iip tho merits of the teams The o-oals were scored by Once (3), Alex Ser and Snarks. The Auckland nominations for the North Island team are: Cooper. England, Johns, Wheeler, Grice and A. Alexander. In the three Shield games this season, Auckland have scored 18 goals, the only one against them being Nc - son’s in the first match.
