STOCK AND SHARE MARKET

QUOTATIONS, AUGUST 18, 1920.

,F. J. McCabe, Share and Stock Broker, Member of Wellington Stock Exchange, Jackson and McCabe, Trafalgar Street. SOUTHERN MARKET. ' CHRISTCHURCH, August 17. The race week holidays and the naturally depressed conditions ,of the grain and produce market have. restricted business to very narrow channels. There is no alteration in the. oat market, though the tendency is in the direction of weakening rather than the reverse. The paucity of business renders quotations to an extent nominal. It is rather remarkable thafc Algerians have not participated in- the decline, and several substantial lines’of such have been sold fox’ North Island con sumption at 6s 6d (and in one case slightly over), s.i., f.0.b., quite Is 6d a bushel more than Cartons. ; These will be required for spring sowing. It" is expected that a much decreased area will be sown in oats in 'Canterbury tbh year owing to th# guaranteed wheat price. This 1 is a factor that a number of merchants are not** losing sight o i , and justifies them in anticipating lator the rehabilitation of the market. The clover market continues active, and a number of parcels have been sold to North Island, merchants at up to 2s 6d.. There is nothing new to record in connection with the potato market, though the reception of inquiries by local merchant's from Australia inspires a hope that the delegation at present in tire .Commonwealth is making some headway in the matter of having the embargo removed.
