MURCHISON NEWS

MURCHISON BRASS BAND. ! The annual meeting ,of the Murchifon Bra-.9 Band was held in the Council Ohambsra. cn, Thursday evening, the inst. Mr H. Fraser in the chair. The secretary, Mr A. Bartlett, presented and read the following' report. He said: “In presenting the statement of accounts for the year ending 51A March, 1919; 1 have pleasure in drawing attention to a slight revival of in I terest in the band, as evidenced by the I fact, for the first year since 1915-16, the balance sheet shows some moneys received. The gratifying fact is due : principally tc the efforts of a few of the ladies who kindly offered to lain j card parties and the tea rooms at the , sale yards for the benefit of the band ; funds, and their kind action is grate j fully acknowledged. The generosity of the County Council in allowing the baud' the free use of the Council Chambers, is also appreciated. Under the able leadership of Mr Grcenough, the band is now re-organising and with the advent of some good players who have recently come into the district, and whom it is hoped will join the band, and the home-coming of other members from the war, it may confidently be hoped that we shall soon have a band worthy of our town. As this is the first report submitted to members since 1915, it is fitting to refer to those of our members 'who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, viz., Edgar Clough, Guy Giblin, and Alf. Garbett, and to their bereaved relatives we respectfully tender our sincere sympathy." The balance sheet and report as read were adopted. The following were elected officers of the Band ;—Patron, Mr. Steward; president, Mr A. McNee; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Downie, senr., E. Kerr, T Thomason and McKellar; bandmaster, Mr W.
