MONTHLY MEETING.

Applications from 'Committees _ , were dealt with as follows :—Punakaiii, ‘£2 granted for firewood, etc.; Karamea, declined., but hope expressed that* increased allowances in future word'd bo granted to ail Committees. r; In regard to the proposed _ Board *o! Managers for Nelson Technical School, was reported that Mr La Trobe, Superintendent of Technical Education.; was coming from Wellington, at an early date, when final arrangements would be made. Notices would he sent to the contributing bodies asking them for and also Ideal bodies who might be induced to contribute.

A letter was received from Miss Thornton, Domestic Science Instructress, declining to take up duties ht Eeefton centre, and tendering her resignation. The Secretary’s action in writing to Miss- Thornton was endorsed, and it was agreed to allow the Board’® notice of termination oT engagement 'to take effect.

On the motion of Mr Scantlebury, it was decided to ask the Reef top Committee to recommend ‘ a suitable person to teach cookery with a view to submit name to the Department. A, request from the instructors of , Manual Training Department was held over pending an application' -bebftg made to the Department for an mcreaas® in capitation.

An application was received from tfta Town Schools Committee asking., the Board to make regulation® requicingyafc* tendance at continuation and technical classes of young persons within the school district who are not otherwise receiving a suitable education, or who are no], specially exempted by -sucb Re-gulations.-—lt was decided to ask the Department to -take into conrideratiop the advisableness of bringing Nelson under the compulsory -clauses of the . (entreat. The attendances have 'been on the whole satisfactory, but unfortunately, the classes have met very irregularly, owing mainly to the lack of uniformity in the school holidays. The alterations of the railway time-table have also proved very unsatisfactory.
