THE NIAGARA OUTBREAK. (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 7. Seven cases of influenza have developed on tho Niagara to-day, making a total on the island of forty-six. None of, the new cases are classed as serious, and all the patients are reported to oe progressing. No further passengers other than patients were landed to-day. POSITION IN CANTERBURY. NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. A few cases of influenza are being reported in tho Canterbury and Westland public health district from week week, but there is absolutely nothing m the position to warrant fears that tho epidemic is, recurring. In the week ended at noon to-day four cases of influenza were reported in the Canterbury and WCstland public health district. All lolir were in the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s area; two were mild and the other two pneumonic. During the month of March there were only twenty-three notifications of influenza throughout Canterbury and Westland, and almost all these cases were mild.

FOUND TO BE GASTRIC TROUBLE.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 7

Some uneasiness was caused at Lyt-. telton yesterday bj t-hr receipt of the news that there was an epidemic suspect on board the Monowai, which arrived from .Wellington and Auckland. The patient, a" woman passenger, was brought to Christchurch Hospital for

'observation. Dr Chesson. DistrictHealth Officer, stated to-day that the case was certainly not pneumonic influenza and symptoms really pointed to gastric trouble. Referring to the fact' that tlie Monowai came front Auckland. Dr Chesson remarked that " she left there two days" before the Niagara arrived. so there- would be no need for anxiety on that account.
