69th ANNIVERSARY
I The 69th anniversary of above I Church was celebrated yesterday, when. >there were large congregations* at both 'services, and especially in the,.evening. I The preacher of the dav was the Rev. : !Dr Gibb, of "St. John's Church* Wellington. At the evening service he took for his text 11. Corinthians iv., 16-8, '; and preached a. powerful discourse from ■ the words, "The things which are seen • are temporal; but the things which are i not seen are eteiuial." At the evening | service the learned divine gave an eloquent sermon on "The parable of the Talents" (St. Matt, xxv, 14-30). Special music was rendered by the choir under the direction of the organist (Mr ,J. R. Smith). The anthem at the morn- | ing service was "The Lroxd is my ■ strength," and, in the-evening, "Let God. arise," was given. i The anniversary will be further celei brated to-morrow evening,- when an old-time ■ soiree will be held. Tea will ;be served in the Sunday School Hall I from 5.30 to 7 p.m., and at 8 o'clock "a public meeting and concert will be held 1 in the same place. There will be only one speaker; the Rev. T>r -Gdbb, who will give a topical address entitled "A Speech for the Times." A large attendance is anticipated.
