MURCHISON.

RECEPTION TO RETURNED SOLDIERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A public reception to those recently returned l from the front was held in Thomason's Hall on Friday evening, the sth inst, under the auspices of the Murchison Soldier's Gift Fund and Recruiting Committee. Apologies were received from Trooper J. Thomson, Messrs Bartlett, Joseph Lynch and John Lynch. The following returned men were present: Messrs McMahon, D. Norriss and the two Lester brothers.

Mr Jos. Brown, chairman of : the committee, addressed t'he men and gave them a hearty welcome on their return home, and the large gathering joined in the welcome by heartily sinking "For they are jolly good fellows. ''

(Mr Brown referred to the good work of the Soldiers' Gift Fund Committee and pointed out the letters in the hall tiTat 'had been received from the Murchison boys at the front, acknowledging the kindness their friers is in chison and expressed the thanks of the committee to Mr F. A. 'Clayton, the late secretary for his services in rendering such valuable help in sending the gifts of parcels' to the boys at the front.

Mr' 'Clayton suitably replied and stated that the ladies of the committee had Tendered valuable help in the good work of the committee. The reception proved a most enjoyable one. Songs and choruses were rendered by Mesdames Warneford 'Clayton and Mr R. O.Rourke, and 1 pianoforte duets by the Misses Potter. The items rendered by the pupils of the MurchiVon school under the charge of Miss Bolton, were very much appreciated. Mrs Mills acting as accompanist. A sumptuous supper was served to all and dancing indulged in at intervals during the evening.
