A distressing accident 'by which Mrs Lewis, wife of Mr Charles William' Lewis of Peel street, Westport, lost her life, occurred ere Sundaj l ' morning on her husband's farm at Orawaiti ~(£-ays the West Coast Times). It appears "that- Mrs Lewis -went out in the morning- 'in company with her sister, Mrs Norton, to her husband's farm'. Mir Lewis was logging met and burninig off -some bush on Ms section, and deseased andi her s : ster were in the act of taking some lunch to himv When on their way they had to pass a fire,"which had been started' on Saturday. The fire was logged' up around an old birch tree, and when passing it, Mrs Lewis picked up some wood that was lying near and was in t-he act of plac ; ug it on the fire, when a piece of the tree broke off close; to the top, and in falling struck thai' on the head, death being- instantaneous.
