meeting of executive. A meeting of the Executive of the Silver Bullet Cannonade was held at the rooms last evening Mr H. R. Duncan presiding. A number of reports were handed in all going to show that the scheme is progressing satisfactorily. It was reported- that- tho request to have Monday. July 31st, ! declared a public holiday in lieu of the first Monday in August had 'been eorqplied with, the necessary requisition having been obtained. With regard to Paddy's Market, tho chairman of the Committee (Mr A. Gould) reported that Mrs Kelling had undertaken the charge of the tea kiosk, and would arrange for lier own staff and secure the necessary tables, etc. The committee had resolved that Mrs Kelling be given sole charge of the kiosk during the whole period of the mai'ket, and that one day be allotted to each a,rmy. the army to .provide the material for its own day and to receive the proceeds for .that day. The prices for admission. had been, fixed and season tickets arranged for. The Executive was requested to arrange for a late tra >n on Wednesday, the 19th inst., and to have the late train on Saturday the 22nd inst. delayed till 10.30 or 11 p.en. tMr W. Lints, organiser, reported on what was being done by the Entertainment Committee, of which Mr Squires is chairman, to provide continuous attractions during the period of the market, both in the market centre and' .11 the Provincial Hall and annexes. It was reported that Messrs Bobertson Bros., Ltd., would make the "Barometer" free of charge, and that- Messrs Savage and Son would do the lettering also without charge. The Executive of the Silver Bullet Cannonade has received a request from the Nelson Branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association asking that collectors should be instructed-to abstain. from soliciting donations from returned soldiers. It has been- an understanding that returned soldiers, if known to be such, should not be asked; for any contributions in connection with the effort and the Executive hopes that officers of the respective armies .-will take special means to impress ti£On collectors this conditions.

' At a meeting- of the Wood Bomlnv- ! diers' Committee last evening it was decided! t-o proceed with the plain and fancy dress masked dance to be held on Wednesday, the 12th inst-, in the Provincial Hall. The Social Committee have made the following- arrangements : —Prizes will be giveni for the most original da-ess if or ladies andi gentlemen. A dance was held in the Tali una Hall last evening -under the auspices of -the Waimea Port Grenadiers. . There was a large attendance and the proceedings passed-off successfully. " This promises to -be the 'best evening's entertainment .provided' in- Nelson for considerable time.. The music is in the capable hands of- the Nelson Concert. Orchestra, who will accompany the pictures and. also render four first-class selections. The Garx-ison Band will play outsido the Theatre from 7 to 8 p.m. and Rev. Baumber, officer of the Navy League /will open the function with a short, address. Messrs E. H. Short, A. E. Haynes have kindlv consented to give songs and Messrs Dimant and Rudmaii recitations. The (moving pictures and lantern sl;des are a splendid series of up-to-date Navy views. N IGHT WITH THE ARMY. . Dancing for adults will commence at 9.30 p.m. The Waimea-Port Grenadiers are holding a skirt and blouse dance in the Bowinjj Club's Shed on Friday evening. Motor trips round the harbour have.been arranged. Prizes for the lottery dance will be given. The Guards will hold a social and dance in the Oddfellows' Hall, Wakefield, on Wednesday, July sth.
