" GREATEST GENERALS"
NO VOTES FOR CROWN" PRINCE. A few weeks ago the Genevois, of Geneva, hit upon, .the idea of taking a poll of its readers oni the interesting question, "Who have proved .themselves to be the eight greatest .generals in the present war?" and the paper has now published, the result of 'its .poll, in which many thousands of votes were recorded. Art. the head of the list comes General" Joffre. The French C'omimander-in-Cliief received' many more votes than, did Marshal von Hmden:burg,., who. received ohe next largest number of votes. Them in order of the number of votes received come General de Qastelnau, General Sar•mil. Marshal von Ma-ckensen. General Fock, General Petain and.' the Grand Duke Nicholas. These, in the opinion of the readers of the Genevois, are the eight- greatest generals of. the war. Others who receiver! a considerable mumber of votes were •Generals French, Oadorna, Mannoury, and -ron Kluck. •An amusing feature of the poll was that whilst an obscure general l like Ichman von Wandera. obtained as many as •a hundred votes not a single vote was recorded for the .'German. Crown Prince. The (Swiss people evidently have a. very poor opinion of the miKtary\ merits of this royal, commander. «
