'Gisbor;ie J for the professional-heavy-weight boxing championship of .New ZealanT? and a purse of £75. attracted an audience that filled the Opera House to overflowing. • Lowe weighed list 101b and Bartlett 12s 21b. It proved one of tlie most strenuous heavy-weight contests held in this district. Although really heavy, effective hitting was not very prevalent, by common consent Bartlett must be given credit for showing more aggressiveness against Lowe than any previous opponent. He did his best, however, only at close quarters. In the seventh round was struck down by ah unexpected back-hand blew, (but returned to the frav little the worse. The contest ended at the close of the eleventh round, as a result of Bartlett giving up on account of an injured wrist, which had' been-troub-ling him since the fifth round.
