PREFERENCE TO ARB ITR AT I ON"ISTS. (United Pbess Association.) • CHRISTCHURCH. March 7. A slight trouble occurred on the wharves at Lyttelton' to-day, arising from preference,to original arbitratiohists. Many steamers-were working-when .the Canopus arivea.with coal.- Fortyeight men. were' required tp begin discharging immediately. The Victoria appeared a. little later, and required 36 men, while 12 were required for the Kamo. Only " five arbitrationists were available and- these were talcen on.. About--80 ex-strikers left the wharves, " and walked quietly into-Oxford-street. Sixteen ex-strikers'remained and accepted employment-. The other hands required w;ere picked -up quietly. No delay in working the boats occurred. The de- . monstration was reported to the Employers' Association which corpmunicated. with the union executive.
