In the course of an address to his constituents Mr G. AY. Russell laid down the lines of the Liberal policy. He said it would be the duty cf Liberalism to tackle sickness, incapacity, unemployment, ignorance, incompetence. in.nior--alitv, the gambling evil, and the drink evil-with the whole force of the State. Mr Russell proceeded to define what he regarded as the fundamental principles including government by the people for the psople. and not f<r any one claes. Tue use of the national revenues and credit to defeat monopoly, reduce the cost of living, and compel the Subdivision of lands to the utmost limits for profitable occupation, retain undiscovered mineral wealth of the country, and ■work the same for the common weal, establish State farms, factories, workshops in order to provide employment ?or the delicate, aged and infirm, the right ot everv child to good health and to the highest education practicable ; the right of everv person to medical and legal assistance; the right of every honourable, right living man to a reasonable share <:t the comfort and happiness of life.
