MR ESTELL CONFIDENT

Mr Estell stated that he was satisfied that the master butchers vyould favourably consider the proposals to have the work resumed forthwith, as a basis of final settlement. His opinion was that matters were now as right as rain. The employers state that they made no offer to the men that if they go back it would be on the masters' terms, and declare that about 100 unionists resumed yesterday. WATERSIDERS' OVERTIME STRIKE. MASTERS AND MEN CONGRATULATED. MELBOURNE, March 5. Mr Justice Higgins, in adjourning the wharf labourers' case until Monday, congratulated the employers and the union leaders, and above all, the public, that the threatened disaster had been averted. The shipowners exercised wise patience in not taking certain steps which would have precipitated a general struggle nvach greater than "the New Zealand strike.
