INDIGNANT FRENCHMEN AT SYDNEY
ALLEGED INSULT TO THE TRICOLOUR. (Press Association. —Copyright.) SYDNEY, Sept. 26. A deputation of French residents *n Sydney waited upon the French Consul and expressed indignation at Mr P. M.. Glynn, .Minister of External Affairs, allowing an insulting reference to be made to the French flag in his presence without, protest. They complained that, according to a newspaper report one of the members of the deputation of Presbyterian missionaries who -waited on Mr Glynn in Melbourne on the 18th inst. with reference to affairs in the New Hebrides, said, "We are almost ashamed to have the British flag entwined with ■the French flag irf the Islands," and the Minister allowed this flagrant breach of I international etiquette to pass without | demur.
Th<j speakers asked the consul to acquaint the 'French Government of French residents' feelings on the matter. Several letters of protest were read from French residents in other .parts of the Commonwealth. The Consul promised to acquaint his 'Government of th,e great concern the incident had caused to theii* compatriots in Australia.
