ARREST OF A COACHBUILDER

AUCKLAND, May 27 \ married man named Robert Charles Bull, aged 35 years, who «sid«J with his parents in Panmure-road, and earned on the trade of a coachbuilder in a shop near the hojse. was arrested yesterday on a charge of stealing two gigs, lhe surest is the outcome of a detectives inquiries concerning the mystery of m.ssinjj K igs in the Remuera and Ellerslie dl \Vithin the last six months three gigs have disappeared by night never to.be s.en again. The result cf mformat on received was a visit yesterday to Bull s house where various parte ot a missing ,M«r were found hidden about Bull s workshop and house. The wheaU had been repainted and Htted with new' axle boxes to enable a different type of axle to be fitted into them, while a new bodywas readv to be mounted on them, and. in various ways, smaller parts of the gig had been ingeniously altered. Bull told the detective that he had burnt the original body of the gig. He admitted having stolen the g.g on £«- vember 21st from the yard of Mr. William Barrv, at Elierslie. That gig. he said had been repainted and otherwise altered, and then sold for £lO to a dealer in second-hand gigs in the city. He added that his wife had been ill, and he took tho gig in order to get money to pav for the medical attention she required. He said he went to the house at 11 o'clock at night, pulled the gig out. yoked his horse to it, and drove away- , . • -on At the Police Court thm morning Bull was charged with having stolen Mr. Deacon's gi" (value £2O) and Mr Barry's pitr (value £10), and was remanded till Friday.
