HINDERING MEDIATION. PARIS, Nov. 5. The Porte has notified the Ottoman ambassadors that the position is not desperate, though embarrassing. M. Poincare, replying to the Porte's request, sayis u- i 6 impossible to secure an armistice, which w-auld sliattej the allies' plans and give Turkey, time to reorganise. He is willing to examine a de finite peace offer. "Le Temps" says Russia, France, a.nd Britain have set aside interests which might 'well have taken territorial form, but Austria's silence renders mediation impossible.
