In the match Australians versus Notts, the latter continued their first innings in warm but cloudy weather. The wicket was on the soft side after showers overnight. The attendance was 1000 - McLaren and Hazlett opened to Gunn and Crawford, the latter scoring two veui'ers in Hazlett's first over, and bringing up the century in 105 minute*-. ln-jlazlett's third over GulliU lit turning a- ball to leg, was caught bv Carkeek —116—5—33. A partnership lasting 40 minutes ensued between Iremonger and Crawford. Matthews relieved Hazlett with the scote at 156. In the first- over he bowled Crawford, who" attempted a glance. Crawtord batted 65 rrinutes, and hit eight fourers. McLaren became erratic, and was relieved by Whitty. Alletson was soon grandly caught by McLaren, who ran 30 yards along the ring to long-On. At 176 Oates was bowlfed by Whitty, who, two ball slater, secured Riley's wicket, the batsman being caught by Minnett at point. The last wicket put on 22 runs, Wass being caught at second slip by Mayne for 18, including three fourers. Notts' score of 202 was made in 205 minutes. After lunch the weather became :hreatening. The attendance increased :o 3000. Bardsley and Gregory took the score :o 22 by slow play, when the former was caught at short slip by Jones off tfciley, who ten- runs later secured Macartney l.b.w. _ Wass nearly bowled Minnett with his second ball; but the batsman did not last long, being caught at 49 by Alletson it deep square leg. Riley and Wass were bowling well. Mayne hit wildly acroS a delivery from Riley, and was bowled. Gregory and Jennings took the score j from 59 "to 94, when the former was i bowled in attempting to pull Riley after [ a sound, restrained innings, lasting 100 rrinutes. Iremanger relieved Wass at 88. Matthews assisted Jennings, who was batting stylishly, to hoist the century, after 110 minutes play. At 105, immediately after the tea adjournment, Matthews was caught at the wickets, and twci runs later Hazlett was run out. Carkeek and Jennings raised the total to 143,, when the former was caught at the wickets. At 157, Jennings (who had batted for 105 minutes, and" played a judicious innings, marked by skilful driving), was run out in attempting a run for a cut, Hardstaff returning smartly. Tho last wicket put on eight runs, when Riley bowled Whitty. The Australians' second innings lasted 185 minutes. At the end of the day's play Notts had scored 12 without the loss of a wicket. (The details and the total do not tally. If the bowling analysis is correct, the Australians' second innings realised 165.)
