DEATH OF MR, HENRY BROAD
HURST
The death occurred at his residence at Cromer of Mr. Henry Broadhurst, ihe veteran la.bour worker, after an illness which, in its final stages, lasted about two weeks.
Mr. Broadhurst, who was 71 .a.-:t April, after working in a blacksmith's shop and as a stonemason, sat in Par liament for Stoke, Bordesley, Nottingham and Leicester, and for a few months in 1836 .-erved as Under-Secretary for the Home Department. Before his election for Stoke as a Liberal working man in 1880 he hnd world d as a .stonemason in Westminster Abbey, and i" many private houses and public buildings in London. And whereas now he addressed the House in comfort, he had once worked high up on the clock tower when winds were cold and clothing scanty. His long-career was a strenuous oiib. for. in addition to his Parliamentary work, he occupied offices in connection with tildes unions and served on several Royal Corrrrrissions on industrial questions.
