(Rec. April 20. 10 a.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE Aprttl9. Four battleships, accompanie<3\by 22 torpedo boat*, opened fire on the • ;<>uter forts at 8000 yards. The forts repJiodMerchantmen were allowed- to proceed northward. Turkish mine-laying ships aro completing the closing of the Straits. • • British subjects embarked on a steamer. The fleet fired 180 projectiles, which did not seriously damage the barracks or the forts. One of the Italian vessels took fire, and the fleet pnt to seal. The Governors at Mitylene and Rhodes report that two Italian, ships shelled, thebarracks above Vathe for three and' a -half hours.
