ALLEGED RACING CONSPIRACY.

PROSECUTION AT BLENHEIM

(United Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, This Day. Edmund John Walsh, grocer, and John Vernon Binlev. telegraphist, appeared at the Magistrate's Court to-dav charged with conspiracy by deceit in attempting to defraud Ross' Bradshaw and Scott Martindale. of Wellington, of sums of £54 and £SO 10s. on certain betting transactions. It was alleged that Binlej arranged with Walsh to go to the Wan sanui races leaving signed telegrams to the firms mentioned. containing the names of horses likely to win. The Wanganui telegrams were to be handed in prior to the time of the race. W alsh telegraphed the winners to an address in Blenheim, and Binlev watched the Wanganui wires and held back the telegrams to the firms. He erased the horses' names and substituted the winning horse, rhe firms became suspicious and made inquiries, and prosecution was the result. Inspector Ellison is appearing for the police. The case is proceeding.
